🕵‍♂𝐈𝐧 𝐡𝐞𝐭 𝐝𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐣𝐤𝐬 𝐥𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐛𝐞𝐧 𝐢𝐤...

I'm a dance instructor at Albeda Dance College, a program that trains students to become professional, all-around dancers. I'm also a dance therapist and the mother of two young children.

I think it's very important that young people can act socially consciously and help each other. With these projects, we cross a threshold that helps them let go of prejudices and see the world from a new perspective. I also find it wonderful to see how students can reinvent themselves during a project week like this; they learn all sorts of new things about themselves.

💭𝐌𝐢𝐣𝐧 𝐦𝐨𝐨𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐭𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐢𝐬 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐬…

During one project, a group of girls arrived who were absolutely not looking forward to it and described everything as terrible—the food, the rooms, everything. All they could do was complain. After a few days of intense work, including some serious clashes and conversations with classmates, but also some wonderful moments with local children in this new environment, their eyes were suddenly opened. They were happy to have experienced the trip; they now knew how good their life at home was and wanted to be more helpful. These women had a wonderful experience to take home with them.

A serious moment during the excursion, an important part of the entire project. Working at the school and interacting with the children in Bosnia was very enjoyable and easy during this project. Here you see a moment of reflection during the excursion; I talk about the background of the country and the reason for the foundation's founding. The students hear and feel why it's so important that they come here to do projects.

"If students can put aside their own perspectives and needs for a moment, face reality and, with their own contribution to it, truly engage with the group and the project, they can go home with a new perspective."
