Bosnia and Herzegovina is primarily known for the genocide that took place there from 1992 to 1995. Bosnian Serbs disagreed with the declaration of independence in 1992. Consequently, the Bosnian Serb army entered various Bosnian towns (particularly in eastern Bosnia, which borders Serbia) and massacred the non-Serb population, imprisoning them in prison camps or expelling them. In 1995, a massacre took place in Srebrenica, killing approximately 8,000 Muslim men and boys. Following this incident, international action was taken, and the Dayton Agreement was drawn up. This marked the end of the so-called Bosnian War.
