“From the very first time I participated, as a teacher at ROC Midden Nederland, I was struck by the project's impact on the students and clients of the institution we were at, the beauty of the natural surroundings, and the enthusiasm of the Out of Area project leaders. So, I didn't hesitate when I was asked to join the board. I've since also participated as an assistant project leader.”

"The most recent one was last summer as a volunteer in our hostel 'Veliko Srce' in Lisicici. Clients from the Zavod Drin institution from Fojnica come there for their holidays, a different group every 3/4 days. There is a sponsorship fund available from which we as a foundation can treat the clients. To a meal, a visit to the swimming pool and also pocket money. The clients could spend the pocket money in the large supermarket, where all kinds of things are sold. Almost everyone bought clothes or shoes, that is a real luxury." for them. And in the evening, it was all shown off, one happy face after another. Heartwarming."

“About my first trip as assistant project leader with experienced colleague René. The photo was taken at a spot in Sarajevo where we often go with groups; from there, you have a view of Sarajevo and the immense cemetery. I learned a lot from the trips with Out of Area; about guiding groups during these special projects. About when to intervene and when to 'let go' with a group. About the history of Bosnia. About the importance of flexibility and humor during an intense project week. Never to be forgotten.”

“We can be of significance. For the people for whom we are carrying out the project. For the students of the school who are carrying out the project. That significance lies in various aspects: ranging from giving attention to a spruced-up classroom. From overcoming a personal hurdle to a look of satisfaction in someone's eyes after a day on the project.”
